Mallard is an app made by one person, not a company. I built it to work without knowing anything about you: your habits stay on your phone.
- No account, no email, no password.
- Your habits never leave your phone.
- Anonymous statistics, only if you turn them on — never the content of your habits.
- No ads, no advertising trackers, nothing to sell.
Who's behind Mallard

What stays on your phone
Everything you note — your habits, your values, your history, your settings — is stored only on your device. Nothing is sent to a server. If you uninstall the app, it all goes with it.
Backup and transfer
To switch phones, you can export a backup. The file is encrypted: the code the app gives you is the key. You carry it yourself (Drive, email, cable…) — that's the only moment your data leaves the device, and it stays unreadable without the code, even for the intermediary that hosts the transfer. I have no access to it — neither the file nor the code.
Anonymous statistics (optional)
To know whether the app is genuinely useful and where to improve it, Mallard can send a few anonymous statistics through Aptabase — the only third-party service that receives anything — hosted in the European Union. It's off by default.
- Off by default. Nothing is sent until you say yes. You can change your mind whenever you want, in Settings.
- Legal basis: your consent (GDPR, Article 6(1)(a)).
counted events. For example opening the app, creating your first habit, the number of habits by bracket (1–2, 3–5, 6 and more), a day completed at 100%, turning on the reminder, exporting or importing a backup, entering a code, reaching the free limit.
the name of a habit, a value you note, the dates of your entries, your email, or any identifier that would follow you from one day or device to the next.
- No profile: nothing makes it possible to recognize you from one time to the next.
Notifications
Reminders are local notifications, set by the app on your phone. No server, no data sent.
What I never do
No advertising. No ad trackers, no cross-app tracking. I don't sell or share your data. No account, no email collection. That's not Mallard's model, and it won't become one.
Your rights
The GDPR gives you rights over your data: to access it, correct it, erase it, take it with you, and withdraw your consent. Since everything stays on your phone, you already do most of it yourself: erase everything from the app, or uninstall. For the statistics, you withdraw your consent whenever you want (in Settings) — sending stops immediately; and since they carry no identifier, there's nothing personal to retrieve or delete on that side. For anything else, email me: contact@mallardapp.app. And if you feel something is wrong, you can lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority (cnil.fr).
Retention
Your local data stays until you erase it. The anonymous statistics are kept in aggregate form by Aptabase, with no link to you, and only for as long as useful to improving the app.
